The Cinema One Originals Festival gave out its awards last night. This year’s prizes were deliberated on by a jury comprised of screenwriter Ricky Lee, UP film professor Anne Marie de Guzman, Russian-American filmmaker-turned-Cebuano film educator Misha Anissimov, and filmmaker Lav Diaz.
Dan Villegas’ Changing Partners took home a total of eight awards, including best actor and actress for Jojit Lorenzo and Agot Isidro, and a special jury citation for best ensemble acting. The film was also voted audience favorite, and also received a special prize from festival sponsor Champion for reflecting the values of the brand.
Villegas would end up sharing the best director prize with Giancarlo Abrahan, whose film Paki ended up winning the best film prize. Abrahan was also awarded best screenplay. Ricky Davao took home the best supporting actor prize for Paki as well, winning out in a field of fifteen nominees.
Richard Somes’ Historiographika Errata was awarded the jury prize, and also won prizes for best production design and cinematography. Fatrick Tabada and Rae Red ended up getting a special citation from the jury as well for their film Si Chedeng at si Apple, which also won a best supporting acting prize for Mae Paner.
