Would you pay almost $200 for a razor when you can buy a $5 drug-store razor? Probably not, but maybe this new razor on the market will make you change your mind — it’s a real investment.

Zafirro, a company that specializes in luxury razors, is planning to release a new model with a blade of sapphire, only second to diamond in terms of innate hardness. The Z2 Razor promises to be the company’s most accessible offering, evading the price ranges of its predecessors between $18,000 to $100,000.

Dubbed by Time Magazine as “The Perfect Razor,” Zafirro’s blades are environment-friendly. The new model serves as a solution to reduce razor waste deposit in landfills. With close to 2 billion razor blade deposits in landfills every year, the sapphire blade is guaranteed to last a hundred times longer than the standard and will make just as much a difference. The blade consists of only 80 atoms of sapphire, yet is still much sharper and more durable than the run-of-the-mill steel blade and plastic razor. Zafirro’s new model, the Z2, is said to be sharper than a surgeon’s scalpel and can last for 6 to 12 months or even longer.

If you want to be one of the first people to get one of these luxurious razor when they release it next year, Zafirro is funding the next production of the Z2 Razors on Kickstarter, you can pledge your investment as early as now.
