Rogue Media, Inc. is proud to announce the appointment of Jonty Cruz as editor-in-chief of Rogue.
Cruz has enjoyed a rewarding and fast-moving career in the local publishing industry: he started as an editorial assistant for Esquire Philippines in 2011 and was promoted to managing editor a year after. He became the editor of Young STAR, The Philippine STAR’s youth lifestyle section, in 2015, and, most recently, Rogue’s deputy editor.
In response to the appointment, Cruz states, “I still remember the first issue of Rogue I ever bought, and falling in love with it almost instantly. I was captivated by its coverage of the country’s zeitgeist, and its design was unlike anything I’d seen from a Philippine magazine. Through the years, its editorial team has produced some of the very best features in local publishing. It is a great privilege to represent Rogue as its new editor-in-chief and I can’t thank our entire team and publisher Vicky Montenegro enough for this opportunity. As EIC, I hope to not only honor Rogue’s legacy, but lead the brand to a new and exciting future.”
“For 10 years, Rogue has been synonymous with authoritative storytelling, excellent design, and uncompromising, exacting standards that have made it what it is,” Rogue Media Inc publisher Vicky Montenegro says. “Under Jonty’s leadership, we are certain that these Rogue trademarks will prevail, and we are likewise excited to see where he and the whole team will take the brand further—in print and digital.”
Cruz’s new leadership is built on his extensive experience covering multiple fields, subjects, and angles — writing, curating, and producing content from the ground up, and being able to connect and work with a variety of audiences and collaborators.
His appointment coincides with Rogue’s tenth anniversary, a milestone affirming the magazine’s reputation as a unique and enduring voice in the industry, and its resolve to continue its tradition of world-class journalism and design.
