In German, the word that refers to a cross-country or off-road vehicle is Geländewagen. That’s what the G stands for in Mercedes-Benz’s new line of SUVs, which officially made their Philippine debut last night at the Rockwell Tent. The GLE, GLE Coupe, and GLC models were the centerpieces of the event, which also celebrated 36 years of the iconic G-Class model, whose imprint has been left on every SUV from Mercedes-Benz since then. Together with a fifth model, the GLA, Mercedes-Benz’s four SUVs are now entering the Philippine automobile market through local distributor Auto Nation Group, Inc.
The GLA’s design, marked by a raised muscular body, makes the car feel bulky and at the same time aerodynamic, underlining the ‘S’ in SUV. From every perspective, the GLA expresses sportiness, pairing coupe-style lines with typical SUV elements like raised roof rails and optical underride guards.
Flexible and agile, the GLC is Mercedes-Benz’s best bet for the urban SUV. Nevertheless, the car still holds true to Mercedes-Benz’s global campaign (“Make the best of every terrain”), and offers motorists the opportunity to master difficult, rugged ground. A careful blend of sensuous lines and proportions give the GLC a look that is both modern and timeless.
The key feature of the GLE is its dynamic drive program system, which gives motorists the option to tailor their engine, transmission, and steering capacities to the car’s suspension, depending on the sort of terrain they’ll be expecting. Able to configure between “Comfort”, “Sport”, and “Slippery” programs by default, the standard GLE can also be equipped with additional Offroad Engineering packages. For motorists looking to fine tune their SUV, there is an option to configure the GLE to an “Individual” drive program, which gives the driver full control over the car’s set-up.
Finally, the GLE Coupé is the fruit of Mercedes-Benz’s attempt to merge the coupé’s cultivated sportiness with the SUV’s impressive poise. A characteristic profile and wide track width give the car breathtaking dynamics. Athletic shoulders and powerfully modeled surfaces lend the vehicle extreme presence. A low body and flat roof are the finishing pieces to a car whose unmistakable shape catches the eye and remains in the mind.
The new Mercedes-Benz SUVs, along with the G-Class model, will be distributed by Auto Nation Group through their dealer networks that include Mercedes-Benz Greenhills, Mercedes-Benz Bonifacio Global City, Mercedes-Benz Alabang and Mercedes-Benz Cebu.
