For the sixth installment of the Lexus Design Award, they’re looking for fresh new design ideas that show that luxury and environmentalism are not necessarily at odds with each other. The theme of this the 2018 edition is “CO-,” which they explain is a Latin word that means “with” or together in harmony. They’re fielding submissions from all around the world, looking for bright young designers who have fresh, innovative concepts for products that fit that theme.
Those interested in participating have until October 4 to send in their concepts online, and if selected, they’ll be flown out to Milan for the Lexus Design Event in 2018. Four of the finalists will get a chance to be mentored by some of the world’s top designers and architects, and will be receiving funding to turn these ideas into something that you can actually touch.
Previous editions of the award have shone a spotlight on an eclectic mix of designs. Last year’s grand prix winner Hiroto Yoshizoe came up with a structure that offered a new means of experiencing light in any given space. It’s a particularly artful bit of industrial design that that finds meaning in the interaction between light shadow. Another one of the finalists, Jia Wu from China, put together something much more whimsical: colorful bits of plastic that can turn any vegetable into a musical instrument.
So it’s clear that Lexus isn’t just looking for conventional ideas. They’re casting a wide net, hoping to find the most daring, most brilliant minds out there. Your big idea could be one step closer to becoming reality. All you need to do is send those big ideas to the Lexus Design Award over at http://lexus.com.ph.
