The Trench Coat

Posted by L.A. Consing Lopez on Mar 31, 2009

I love a good trench coat. I don’t think there’s anything sexier than a man or woman in one. There’s a certain mystery and allure that one instantly projects when donning a trench. It makes a person wonder what lies beneath the streamlined and utilitarian construction.

Alain Delon in Le Samouraї

I doubt the movie Le Samouraї would’ve been as kick ass if the lead character, played by the debonair Alain Delon, hadn’t been in anything other than a trench coat.

Mackintosh trenches are a perennial classic, yet modern enought to fit into any contemporary wardrobe. I love how this one comes in navy, it adds a layer of masculinity and refinement.

Lauren Hutton is quite the classic too.

Hunch

Posted by Jay Lara on Mar 28, 2009

Having a hard time making a decision? Ask the Interwebs. The idea might be a little absurd at first. Why would I need to log on a website to decide whether I should get a new car or not? But, look at it this way; If you’re trying to make that decision, would you go looking for advice from your best friend, or get advice from millions of experienced users around the world? That’s basically what Hunch is about.

Our long-term goal is for a user to be able to come to Hunch with any decision she is pondering, and after answering a handful of questions, get as good a decision as if she had interviewed a group of knowledgeable people or done hours of careful research online.

Eventually, when Hunch gets good enough, we hope users will trust it to make an informed decision without having to turn to lots of external time-consuming sources of information.

The site, founded by Caterina Fake (co-founder of Flickr), is in preview mode and is currently accepting requests for invitations to try it out.

I think it’s a great idea, but there are times where you’re stuck between a rock and a hard place and going online is the last thing you want to do. I propose this scenario: I’m in bed with the wife. All is quiet. I suddenly find myself in a dilemma, “Should I pull a Dutch Oven on the wife?”

Steeling Beauty

While doing some spring cleaning on my laptop, I stumbled upon some old press release photos of the then spanking new Hermès boutique on Singapore’s Orchard Road. Nothing really new happening there, but the interiors are indeed stunning. On a recent visit to Singapore, I finally got to see the store in person. Oh the French, how chic they are indeed. It’s quite fantastic how they set a fashion-forward tone with fluid and modern architecture without losing the traditional feel of a luxury maison.

The store, housed in Liat Tower, boasts an impressive facade consists of granite cladding with strip and shop front window while a glass wall is visually impacted by aluminum and glazing sections and held by steel inserts. An impressive staircase connecting all three levels greets clients. Warped glass balustrades connect the two flights giving the impression of a smooth continuous flow from through all three levels.

Garden and Sea House by Takao Shiotsuka

Posted by Jay Lara on Mar 25, 2009

I would give up everything to live in this house. Everything except my laptop. And my iPhone. Oh, and my Xbox. Of course, I would also need the car. Definitely would need to keep my kicks. Taking my watches with me, and my favorite pair of jeans.

Nevertheless, the house is beautiful.

More of the house here, from Takao Shiotsuka’s site.

The Cousteau by Clae

I have a thing for velcro straps on shoes. Or I’m just too lazy to tie my shoes. I don’t own any ‘boat shoes’, nor do I own a boat, but I would cop me a pair of these. Love the color, and these would look mean with a nice crisp pair of jeans.

Paper Toys

These paper toys by Shin Tanaka are so dope. Love the colors and detail. They look just as fresh as vinyl toys.

The people behind Photojojo are brilliant. I want one. I have the perfect corner in my crib for this.

Behind The Scenes: Rosanne Prieto

Posted by L.A. Consing Lopez on Mar 19, 2009

Let me just start off my saying that Rosanne Prieto was an absolute joy to work with.

Smile Rosanne!

She was extremely friendly and comfortable throughout the shoot. The fact that she completely trusted the Rogue team makes all the difference–ease and confidence is not one of those things that can be faked and our pictures show that Rosanne and the camera were definitely in sync.

Though sultry on the pages of Rogue, Rosanne has a kick-ass sense of humor.

Strike a pose! Nothing to it! Rogue! Rogue! Rogue!

Wide Open Spaces

We shot at T House in Tagaytay, a beautiful white house designed by Budji Layug. The house was the perfect backdrop for the shoot. Its creamy white walls and smooth curves reflected similar attributes in Rosanne.

The Rogue team and Mark Nicdao’s crew took hold control of the dinning table.

A stair is still a stair. Even if Rosanne isn’t sitting there. This is where we shot our cover.

The Talented Ms. Lobregat

Rosanne Prieto’s skin is flawless. Ines Lobregat, our make-up artist (and incidentally a cousin of Rosanne), did a fantastic job at enhancing our cover girl’s natural beauty.

Rick Diokno doing some last minute touch-ups

Rick Diokno, our hair specialist from Kiehl’s, showed us how short hair can be so versatile and so damn sexy. I’ve hoped for a girl with short hair on the cover for a while now, and I couldn’t think of a more perfect choice that Rosanne.

The Porsche 911 Carrera S Coupe

Walk on by, Rosanne!

Alabaster skin, indeed. And her bone structure? Patrician is the only word that can describe.

It’s a wrap (er, trench coat actually) folks!

One final note on this Rosanne-worship blog entry: What is ultimately Rosanne’s main draw is that she’s not some young girl with a lot to learn from life and the world–she is a woman who has lived a life with no regrets and who continues to live with confidence and conviction. A true Rogue woman.

Away We Go Trailer

Posted by Jay Lara on Mar 19, 2009

Sam Mendes directs John Krasinski, Maya Rudolph, Jeff Daniels, Jim Gaffigan, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Alison Janney, Catherine O’Hara. Good cast. Good Trailer. My fingers are crossed. Hopefully it’s a tad bit happier then Mendes’ previous movie.

Trailer in HD.
