We Put The ASUS Zenfone 4’s Camera Through its Paces

The new ZenFone is touting some serious photo taking capabilities. Rogue took the new phone around town, taking pics whenever we could.

Asus’ ZenFone line has always been about delivering the latest and greatest smartphone features at shockingly affordable prices. The new model, the ZenFone 4, now has dual rear cameras: a 12-megapixel Sony IMX 362 main camera, and an 8-megapixel 120-degree wide angle shooter for landscapes and for fitting more people into group shots. It also comes with surprisingly advanced and comprehensive camera controls for a smartphone, which makes it a pretty interesting option for the professional creative staff of a glossy magazine. And with 5x light sensitivity, we could pretty much take it anywhere and just start snapping photos.

So, when we got our hands on one of these new phones, we decided to pass it around the staff as we went about our daily business of eating good food, chatting with celebrities, and at times procrastinating while trying to put together our next issue.

The results were pretty impressive. We especially liked the advanced controls. The degree of control we had over settings like ISO and white balance helped us get the exact photos we wanted. And the ability to manually focus let us put together some interesting compositions, even when we were just snapping a pic of a mug of birthday pancit.
